Winter is officially here with a massive winter storm hitting the Northland. It is safe to say we will have a white Christmas in Duluth, whether you want one or not! However, the winter storm is just the first part of a long stretch of winter weather.

Winter Storm Diaz has been dumping massive amounts of snow across the Northland since late Tuesday (December 13th). When all is said and done, parts of the Northland could see up to thirty inches of snow.

The National Weather Service of Duluth says that the Duluth area, along with surrounding areas, will see 'major to extreme' impacts from the storm. What does this mean exactly? It means that traveling could be impossible.

Even the Mayor of Superior Jim Paine issued a statement telling Superior residents to stay home over the next few days as the snow moves in. He also warned that some side roads and alleys might not be cleared right away due to how much snow we are expecting this week.

Once we get past the snow, we have another winter-related issue to worry about: the cold! While reading about the big winter storm this week, I saw the National Weather Service of Duluth share something regarding next week. It never ends in the Twin Ports!

According to their forecast, when the storm moves out later this week, temperatures will drop just in time for the weekend and lingering into early next week. They also shared a graphic along with their post so we can see what we are working with.

It looks like we can expect "arctic air" moving in later in the weekend with the coldest temperatures expected between Tuesday (December 20th) through Saturday. Throughout that cold period, we will see high temperatures in the single digits. Yikes.

We aren't alone, though. It looks like pretty much the entire state of Minnesota will see this cold blast, along with parts of Wisconsin as well. It looks like it is going to be a fun week ahead.
