City Of Superior Continues Its Battle With The Emerald Ash Borer This Summer; Here’s An Update On What’s Been Happening
Here's an update on the City of Superior's battle against the Emerald Ash Borer. We last reported on the process last year when the city felled trees in the north end and near the Blatnik Bridge. This summer, the war wages on with a new front in South Superior.
According to the Superior Telegram, city crews are toppling Ash trees in South Superior this month. The city has taken the stance that in order to battle the insect they will remove every Ash tree that sits on public property. The effects of this program are already apparent throughout the north and middle parts of the city, as well as along the business routes of Belknap Street and Tower Avenue. The city also took trees down along the wooded boulevard of Hammond Avenue earlier this spring.
A lot of people have had questions about the Ash tree program - from what the orange dots on trees meant, how to dispose of fallen trees, even how to properly identify an Ash tree. Some have even wondered if our cold temperatures in the Northland could slow the infestation.
