A popular community building in Duluth that is often rented for receptions, parties, and special events has been closed - at least part of it.  The Duluth Parks and Recreation has closed part of the Duluth Heights Community Center due to the deteriorating condition of its roof.  Officials with the city have declared the interior rental spaces as unsafe for use by the public.

The roof has been leaking for some time and has reached the obvious end of its life.  Plans for repairs will be addressed in the 2020 Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan.

Groups that have existing reservations for space in the Duluth Heights Community Center will be contacted by the Duluth arks and Recreation to find an alternate location. Hockey will remain in the basement level of the building.

The closure will also bring changes to Play Gym - an active program that was meeting at the facility.  Organizers will be meeting to examine the viability of the program and determine a long term location that will best suit it.

Further questions are directed to the Parks and Recreation at 218-730-4300.
