The CHUM Rhubarb Festival will take place this year at Stella Maris Academy-Holy Rosary Campus at 2802 E. 4th Street in Duluth from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday June 25th. There will be rhubarb pies, rhubarb brats, rhubarb lemonade, rhubarb crisps, rhubarb burritos, jams, scones, and so much more. I didn't realize there were so many things made with rhubarb.

There is an outdoor coffee shop serving up treats and java. There is a raffle and there will be games and activities for any ages that want to play. The longest leaf, longest stalk, rhubarb leaf prints, coloring contest, face painting, and other things to do for families who want to find something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Facts of the world say rhubarb is a perennial that grows well in our area, with harvesting happening in April and May and also October. They grow best in direct sunlight, and you have to remove the leaves from the stalk because they contain toxins that can be poisonous to eat.  In addition, many people peel the outer layers off the stalks to make them more tender.

The Rhubarb Festival is an annual fundraiser to support CHUM’s mission and they have a large goal this year, visit www.chumduluth.org.
