The City of Duluth invites you to celebrate Arbor Day with them. The Arbor Day get together is on Saturday, May 10th from 10 AM to NOON. Volunteers are invited to join City staff and other community members in planting boulevard trees along a designated bike route.

According to the City of Duluth Press Release, “The canopy provided by mature trees provides shade and comfort to cyclists and pedestrians as they commute,” says Shawna MullenEardley, Urban Forestry Specialist for the City of Duluth. “By encouraging biking and walking, we support transportation modes that are more sustainable, contribute less carbon to the atmosphere, and promote healthy lifestyles.”

The Arbor Day Tree Planting Party is open to volunteers of all ages (parents/guardians must accompany minors under the age of 18). Please bring work gloves if you have them. Equipment will be provided. Volunteers should meet at the corner of East Superior St and 10th Ave E.

Contact Cheryl Skafte, City of Duluth Volunteer Coordinator, at 218-730-4334 or cskafte@duluthmn.gov to sign-up. Advanced registration is preferred, but not required.

May is designated Bus. Bike. Walk Month in the City of Duluth. The Arbor Day Tree Planting Party is one of a number of events happening throughout May to promote alternate transportation options. Learn more at www.healthyduluth.org.
