Barkhad Abdi, Cast by Lake Nebagamon Woman in Captain Phillips, Nominated For Oscar

On January 13th, I posted about Debbie Kaszynski from Lake Nebagamon, and the fact she cast a then unknown Barkhad Abdi in the supporting role in Captain Phillips. Lake Nebagamon Woman Attends Golden Globe Awards Ceremony. The film was up for a Golden Globe award, and even though it did not win an award, I said there would be more good things to come from Debbie, and I was right.

Since then, Barkhad Abdi has received an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film, at this years 86th annual Academy Awards. The event will take place on Sunday, March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif. Ellen DeGeneres will emcee the event. Take a look at Barkhad Abdi's competition for the award below.
