5 Things To Enjoy With Your Family At The Northland Community Wellness Day
I remember the first Northland Community Wellness Day that I emceed. I walked into the Romano Gym on the campus of UMD not knowing what to expect. I learned about health, ate healthy food, watch families enjoy the Family Fun Center and more. The second year I emceed it got bigger and this year, my third promises to be even bigger, It just keeps growing! Here's what I'm looking forward to this Saturday, March 25 from 10a-2p. The best part is it's all FREE! (including parking)
10:30am-11:00am – MN College Savings Plan: Saving For College With the 529 College Savings Plan
11:15am-11:45am – Master Gardeners: Keeping Bees, Butterflies and Other Pollinators Thriving in Your Yard
12:00pm-12:30pm – Birch Tree Center: Understanding the Signs: Mental Health Support and Resources
12:45pm-1:15pm – UMD Police Department: Basic Self Defense Skills
1:30pm-2:00pm – Duluth Police Department: An Update From the Duluth PD Drug Task Force
You will learn about health, finances, public safety and sustainability. You might even find a job! Last year I learned that they were in need of swimming instructors so I blogged that. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MN was there with a stationary bike you pedaled to power a blender and they were making smoothies. You just never know what you'll find at Northland Community Wellness Day.
In the back there is a plethora of fun interactive things for your kids to enjoy. They can try their hand (and feet) at rock climbing, have their face painted, UMD Athletes and Champ the UMD Mascot will be there with for photo ops and it's all FREE! You can also take part in a scavenger hunt for prizes!
I'm a mammal lover, so some of my time is spent with the animals they bring from the Lake Superior Zoo and Animal Allies. You can pick up info about future birthday parties and camps at both locations.
I am a self-proclaimed fan of chicken wild rice soup, they'll be offering that along with vegan vegetable soup at NCWD. If you need a bit more, you can add a freshly made sub sandwich and grab a side of chips or fruit. Of course, I'll have to follow that up with cookies! Come hungry, it's totally yummy!
