Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you have probably heard the big news: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are saying goodbye to their royal duties.

The royal couple dropped the news via a statement in early January, stating that they were to split their time between the United States, where Meghan is from, and the United Kingdom from here on out. Their statement also said they would become financially independent and still do some work for the monarchy. However, they would no longer be senior members.

This news shocked the world, as it was just a few short years ago that the two tied the knot in a lavish ceremony overseas. Since then, the couple has welcomed their first son and Meghan has faced harsh criticism from the press.

While the shocking move is big news, it isn't all bad! Being a royal can be restricting with many rules and regulations members of the family must follow. These rules cover everything from public displays of affection to a strict bedtime schedule.

Now that she may or may not be a part of the family anymore, she has a lot more freedom to do what she wants. Here are five things she might be able to do if she ditches the monarchy completely.

    Wear Dark Nail Polish

I love wearing dark nail polish and so I felt sad when I first read royals can't sport dark nails! According to royal protocol, members of the family can't wear anything too flashy and instead, must stick to neutral or nude colors.

    Play Monopoly

Yes, really! Royal protocol says family members can't play the game. This may be a bit tongue-in-cheek but according to a story from 2008, the game simply gets "too vicious" whenever royals get together to play it. I wonder what other games they are banned from playing!

    Take Selfies

No pictures, please! Royal family members aren't allowed to take selfies. I am not sure who would ask a royal to take one - that would be a little intimidating! The rule was confirmed once when a brave soul asked Meghan to take one and she said she wasn't allowed. Evidence of this can be found on Twitter here.

    Eat Shellfish

I'm not sure this is the first thing I would do if I were to ditch the royal family but Meghan might be into it! Many reports state royals aren't allowed to eat shellfish because it can cause food poisoning and stomach aches. Pasta, rice and rare meats are also nowhere to be found at Buckingham Palace.

    Have A Nickname

Who doesn't love calling their boyfriend or best friend a nickname? Royals, apparently. Royals aren't allowed to give one or call someone else by one either. Where's the fun in that?
