Living in the Northland you either embrace winter or you spend most of the year grinning and bearing it.  An event is coming up next Wednesday that's designed to make so-called "longest season" a little more bearable.

The 2nd annual Walk To School Day is scheduled for Wednesday, February 7 - coordinated by the Minnesota Safe Routes To School program.  The idea is to instill at a young age that we shouldn't let the cold weather hamper going about our normal routines.

To participate, schools are invited to create fun incentives to have their students walk to school on February 7.  Schools that participate are asked to submit their students stories and pictures;  officials with SRTS will award the Golden Snow Boot Award for the best stories.
