The same natural resources that make the economy run in our area also provide educational opportunities for the students who live here.  The St. Louis County Board recently approved $150,000 in Mineral Royalty Scholarship monies - representing an increase of more than $37,000.

The program seeks to offer a portion of the money it receives from iron ore royalties to qualified students at Hibbing Community College, Lake Superior College, Mesabi Range College, and Vermilion Community College.  As part of the qualifiers, the money is earmarked towards students being skilled in high-demand industries in St. Louis County.

The scholarship dollars are awarded in increments of $500 to $2,500 annually.  Applications are accepted from students who obtained a high school diploma while they were a resident of St. Louis Coutny.
