Jerry Lewis Won't Host This Year's MDA Telethon, Steps Down as Chairman

For the first time since 1966, Jerry Lewis won’t MC the annual MDA Labor Day Telethon, an event which has raised over $1 billion for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In May, the legendary funnyman had announced that he would be retiring as the telethon’s host after doing the 2011 show, but would still continue to be the MDA’s national chairman.

After 45 years of hosting duties, Jerry Lewis says that he will make his last appearance on the MDA Telethon this year.

In a prepared statement, Lewis commented:
"As a labor of love, I've hosted the annual Telethon since 1966 and I'll be making my final appearance on the show this year by performing my signature song, 'You'll Never Walk Alone,'" Lewis, 85, says of a condensed six-hour primetime broadcast scheduled to air on September 4th
