We were recently kayaking on the St. Louis River when I thought about an Asian Carp coming out of the water and slapping me in the face, ewwwww! I was assured that wouldn't happen, at least yet. They haven't made their way up this far, but they're being proactive to make sure they don't and your idea could "net" (get it?) some cash.
"If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you"; That trite phrase has been around for centuries. Well - if you switch out the word "bridge" for "lighthouse", it would be true - as the United States Coast Guard gets ready to get rid of the lighthouse that marks the entry way to the Port of Superior.
When I was a kid I was lucky enough to sail on the Great lakes. I wanted to be in the engine room, so I signed on with the PM line as a wiper the first season, an oiler the second, and really enjoyed it. My love of boats lives on to this day, and I can thank the Great Lakes for that (Rise and shine on the PM line..I'll never forget that)
And you thought the cold temperatures and snow meant winter; One of the Twin Ports SURE signs that we're in the winter season arrives in town today - as the John G Munson slowly slides into the Port of Duluth-Superior - marking the last arriving ship of the season.
