What does it take to land a spot among the best high schools in the country?

Strong test scores, college prep opportunities, and an ability to help all students thrive - regardless of background - are just a few of the things that set the top-tier schools apart.

Every year, U.S. News & World Report analyzes nearly 25,000 public high schools across the country. Only about 18,000 make the rankings, and even fewer rise to the top.

This year, three Minnesota high schools not only made the list, they ranked among the best in the entire nation.

#190: St. Croix Preparatory Academy Upper

Ranked 3rd in Minnesota and in the top 200 nationwide, this Stillwater charter school gives students a strong shot at college-level work, with 81% of seniors participating in Advanced Placement coursework and exams.

It also ranks third in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area and #46 on the list of top charter high schools nationwide. The total minority enrollment is 22%, and 10% of students are considered economically disadvantaged.

At #179: Nova Classical Academy Upper School

US News & World Report says this St. Paul charter school stands out for its classical curriculum and impressive AP participation with 64% of students taking on college-level coursework. It's the second best in Minnesota, second in the Twin Cities metro, and 42nd among the nation’s best charter schools.
