Powerful Storm Will Bring Heavy Snow & Thunderstorms to Minnesota
Most of Minnesota experienced summer-like weather last Friday with temps reaching the 70s and low 80s but that warmth didn't last long. Temps plummeted on Saturday and rain and snow moved through the state over the weekend.
More winter weather is on the way. The National Weather Service in La Crosse says, "another strong spring storm system will bring widespread precipitation including rain, snow, a wintry mix, and thunderstorms to the area." See the timing and totals of this midweek storm below.
When Does Winter End in Minnesota?
Winter is technically over. Spring started on March 20th, but Old Man Winter has mastered the 'Minnesota Goodbye' and typically overstays his welcome.
Warmer weather is right around the corner and summer will be here soon. The Old Farmer's Almanac and Farmer's Almanac have already released their summer outlook and they both say it's going to be scorching hot.
Midweek Storm To Hit Minnesota
The National Weather Service says the Twin Cities could get 5" of snow and has issued a Winter Storm Watch for western to central Minnesota.
"Another spring storm will arrive Tuesday morning, with heavy snow expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon and last through Wednesday morning."
That storm will move into Northeastern Minnesota by Tuesday afternoon and evening. The NWS office in Duluth says most of northeast Minnesota will see significant snow accumulations of 6 or more inches.
Southern Minnesota shouldn't see much snow accumulation, maybe an inch or two at most. However, the NWS in La Crosse says this area should be alert for "strong to severe thunderstorms late Tuesday into Wednesday"
