The National Weather Service is already raising the flag and telling people in Minnesota to get ready for a round of potentially severe storms on Monday.

NWS Urges Minnesotans To Prepare Their Severe Weather Safety Plan

A solid plan might not keep you 100% safe, but it gives you a much better shot at making it through a tornado. You can start by putting together a survival kit. The NWS recommends including a battery-operated radio in there.

If you’re not sure where to start, the City of Rochester, MN has a great emergency preparedness guide. A basic kit should have water, non-perishable snacks, any meds you need, a flashlight, and a whistle in case you need to call for help. Don’t forget hygiene items like soap, hand sanitizer, and wipes. And if you’ve got a baby or pets, make sure to pack formula, diapers, pet food, and extra water too.

Unprecedented Storm Alert Puts Minnesota on High Alert

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has now bumped Monday’s forecast up to an "enhanced risk" of severe weather. KIMT News says, "This is the first Day 5 Enhanced Risk (we're 5 days out) in recorded history for southeast Minnesota and North Iowa."

Monday afternoon and evening could be very active, with numerous thunderstorms expected. The main concerns are damaging winds, large hail, and possibly tornadoes.

The NWS in La Crosse says we’re still a few days out and "there are still a lot of details to work out, but numerous severe storms look possible for Monday afternoon and night."

As we get closer to Monday, we'll be able to update the timing and areas that could be most impacted."
