One of the Best Oktoberfest’s in the Country is Hosted in Minnesota
We are in the midst of Oktoberfest celebrations all around Minnesota. Yep, Oktoberfest is celebrated in September, not October typically. I'll tell you why that tradition started in a little bit.
But regardless of when Oktoberfest is celebrated, there are some pretty awesome parties all around the country. One party in Minnesota, however, was just named one of the best in the US!

Why is Oktoberfest Celebrated in September?
Before we get to talking about Oktoberfest celebrations, why is Oktoberfest celebrated in September?
I wrote about this in my post about a Minnesota-brewed beer being one of the best Oktoberfest beers in the country. Here's what I said:
"In 1810, the prince of Bolvaria, Prince Ludwig, married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen in Munich, Germany."
Munich is where the massive Oktoberfest celebration takes place in Germany each year.
"This wedding was a big deal and the festivities began on October 12th, 1810, and lasted until October 17th.
Price Ludwig and Princess Therese thought the party was so amazing that they wanted to do it again next year. And so they did. And the next year. And the next year."
They kept the party in October for a while until it was eventually divided to move the festivities to September since the weather was better then. Seriously, that's why Oktoberfest is in September.
Minnesota is Home to One of the Best Oktoberfest Celebrations in the US
US Today released their 2024 list of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in the US. This is based on readers votes and they gave us the top 10.
One of the parties determined to be the best in the country is right here in Minnesota in New Ulm at August Schell's Brewery!
They barely made the list, coming in at the number 10 spot. But still, there are tons of Oktoberfest celebrations around the country so to be one of the top 10 in the US is pretty awesome.
In case you're curious, the one that's considered the best in the US is Zeeco Oktoberfest in Tulsa, OK.
I have never personally made it to the Schell's Oktoberfest but I hope to soon because it looks awesome. It's family-friendly too, by the way.
This year's celebration will be on Saturday, October 12th. Gates open at 10:30 AM, the beer wagon arrives at 10:45 AM, the fest keg is tapped at 11 AM, and entertainment begins at 11:02!
All of the fun and festivities continue until 5 PM with last call at 4:30.
