Minnesota State Trooper Who Died at South Dakota Lake Remembered for Compassion, Viral Rescue

The Minnesota Department of public safety identified Trooper Mollie McClure as the accident victim. Officials described Trooper McClure as a “dedicated and valued member” of the Minnesota State Patrol

She began serving with the agency in 2021 as a member of central Minnesota’s St. Cloud District and quickly became a respected trooper, mentor and friend, the news release says.

During her time with the State Patrol, Trooper McClure trained academy cadets, served as a peer counselor and was a member of a workgroup focused on increasing the number of female troopers within the agency.

In 2023, Trooper McClure went viral for her rescue of a baby deer that was trapped in a roadside fence.

The news release says Trooper McClure’s “professionalism, compassion, and commitment to service left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community.”

The State Patrol is expressing its condolences to Trooper McClure’s loved ones and is asking the community to respect the family’s wish for privacy.

Minnesota officials did not say how Trooper McClure died.

Dakota News Now reports that South Dakota emergency responders responded to the report of a drowning on Waubay Lake over the weekend and pulled a body from the water on Monday.
