MOM TIP:  Learn from my mistake.  A few years ago, on Halloween night, I thought I lost my kid while we were trick-or-treating in Minnesota.  It was a heart-stopping, panic-stricken moment as I realized that I could no longer see my child.

It was a gorgeous night to go out and go from house to house begging for candy.  Plus, my kids looked adorable in their costumes.  One was a princess, my youngest was a bright red tomato, and my third kid was a ninja.  Before we rushed out though, we had to do the classic photo by the front door.  As soon as that photo was snapped we were out hustling for candy.

It didn't take long before I realized a ninja costume may not have been the best idea.  All dark clothing, and a face mask that was dark and my kid was nearby but I couldn't see him in the dark.  I lost my kid.

I changed a few things after that scare.  I also learned that the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians is Halloween.  3,200 people will head to an emergency room on Halloween and 25% of those injuries seen in the E.R. are because of the hazards of wearing costumes or putting decorations up.

If you are a parent, PLEASE look over the safety tips below to help keep your kids safe on Halloween night.
