Extreme Heat Watch Issued For Parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota This Weekend

If you haven't checked to see if your air conditioner is working yet, now is a good time to flip on that "on" switch.  This weekend is going to be a scorcher and there is a chance for dangerous temperatures for our area.

Several sources have indicated that if you have big plans this weekend, to use caution if those include being outside for long periods of time.  Pets should also be brought indoors so their exposure to the heat is limited.  The public is asked to also check on elderly neighbors and family members as our temperatures rise in the Midwest.

According to the National Weather Service La Crosse, an Extreme Heat Watch is hitting parts of northern Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and sections of Wisconsin starting Saturday at Noon.  This watch will be in place until 9:00 pm on Sunday, June 22nd.

An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for SE Minnesota, NE Iowa, and portions of Western Wisconsin starting at 12PM Saturday and going through 9PM Sunday. Heat indices are expected to peak between 100-105° with little relief overnight. Stay safe if you have outdoor plans - @NWSLaCrosse on X

If you do need to be outside this weekend, please glance over these tips from the National Weather Service to ensure your safety during these extreme temperatures:

Slow Down - reduce, eliminate or reschedule outdoor activity

Dress for Summer - wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

Drink Plenty of Water - avoid alcoholic/caffeinated fluids

Spend Time in Air Conditioned Places - keep an eye on those that don't

Don't Get Too Much Sun! - Sunburn reduces the body's ability to dissipate heat
