One Person Hospitalized After Duluth Tourist Boat Mishap
Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News) - One person was evacuated by the Coast Guard and taken to a hospital for treatment and several others were treated for minor injuries following a mishap involving a popular tourist vessel at the entrance to the Duluth-Superior Harbor Saturday night.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says deputies along with the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, the Coast Guard and the Duluth Fire Department responded shortly before 11 PM Saturday to a report that the Vista Star had collided with a breakwater at the Wisconsin entrance to the harbor. 84 people were on board the 92 foot vessel.
A news release from the Sheriff's Office says the initial reports indicated the ship was against the breakwater but was not taking on water. Emergency responders reported that the Vista Star was listing to one side as it was being rocked by 5 foot waves.
Officials say the crew on the vessel was able to move it away from the breakwater and it was escorted by the Coast Guard and Duluth Fire back to its docking site adjacent to Canal Park in Duluth.
The incident remains under investigation.
