One Person Dead After Fire in Duluth Apartment Building
Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in Duluth are reporting a fatal fire.
A news release issued by the Duluth Fire Department says firefighters responded to an apartment building after receiving a report of a fire around 2:30 AM. The first firefighters to arrive at the scene did not spot any flames but detected smoke in the first-floor hallway
The statement on the incident says the firefighters traced the smoke to a first-floor apartment unit and found an active fire inside. They were able to extinguish the flames in a matter of minutes, but found one of the occupants dead inside the residence.
Officials say the six other residents of the three-story, seven-unit apartment complex, along with multiple pets, were evacuated safely and no other injuries were reported. The news release indicates the damage was limited to the apartment where the victim was found and the other people living in the complex were not displaced by the fire.
The damages caused by the fire were estimated at $25,000. Information about the cause of the fire is not available and the name of the victim has not been released.
