There are a lot of things I enjoy about my job. One of them is the opportunity to tell the stories of the Northland. Some of those stories are about local businesses, how and why they got started, what their mission is, and the things that make them cool, unique additions to our community.

One of those stories I had the pleasure of telling was that of Wired Whisker Cat Cafe, which opened at 1823 East Superior Street in Duluth two years ago.

In the lead-up to the opening of Wired Whisker, there was lots of buzz, largely because of the novelty of the type of business. There aren't many cat cafes in Minnesota, and the few that are can be found in the Twin Cities, except for Wired Whisker.

As I visited with the owner Misha and her husband, it was exciting to get the story behind their dream and the underlying mission for this unique place to enjoy coffee, treats, and time with adoptable cats.

As I mentioned, it has now been two years since Misha's dream became a reality, opening to the public at the end of May in 2024. Two years later, things are still going strong, and the cafe is throwing a big celebration to mark the occasion this Saturday, May 30.

There is a lot going on with this big "cat-mmunity celebration", which has stuff lined up through much of their hours of operation on Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm. Here's a look.

Live music will be playing through the day, with the following lineup:

  • 8:00 am: Yuya Mix
  • 9:30 am: Gavin Glen
  • 11:00 am: The Trash Cats
  • 12:30 pm: Zeb or Zeke and The Runaway Screamings
  • 2:00 pm: Justine Fosle

Free birthday cake will be available in the afternoon, starting around 1 pm. In addition to the free birthday cake, there will be special birthday menu items for sale through the day.

No-booking-needed cat lounge times: Normally you need to book time in the cat lounge to hang out with the cats that make Wired Whisker a cat cafe. For Saturday's celebration, cat lounge visits will be first-come, first-served. Their other rules for cat lounge visits still apply.

Activities, vendors, and more: There will also be vendor booths with activities for people of all ages on the patio. Coffee sampling, beer tasting, henna, pet portraits, and other vendors and exhibitors will be available through the day. I should also mention they are promoting something that sounds fun - bubbles on the rooftop!

On a personal note, congratulations to Wired Whisker on its two-year anniversary! I love seeing local businesses find success and become a part of the community, and Wired Whisker has accomplished both of those things in their first two years. Here's to many more!

Fun fact: Since opening, Wired Whisker quickly became one of the best-rated locally-owned coffee shops in Northern Minnesota! Here's a look at the full list:
