Minnesota Travelers Beware: These Airlines Have the Most Canceled Flights
If your office is like mine, it might feel pretty barren this time of year, with coworkers jumping on planes and taking vacations. Hopefully, if you have a trip planned, everything goes smoothly.
However, your chances of a flight being canceled increase dramatically if you're flying out of Minnesota on one of these poorly performing airlines.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has a unit called the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the stats they released this week show a big difference between airlines when it comes to cancellations and on-time performance.

The Data Behind Airline Performance
Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) is one of the best airports in the world for on-time flights, but some of the airlines operating out of MSP have varying levels of dependability.

Allegiant Air: The Worst Offender in Minnesota
According to the latest data available from October 2024, the airline with the highest percentage of canceled flights is Allegiant Air, which offers six destinations from MSP. Allegiant canceled a staggering 6.4% of its flights.
Frontier Airlines: A Close Second
The second-worst-performing airline at MSP is Frontier Airlines. Offering flights to popular destinations like Orlando and Cancun, as well as daily flights to Denver and Phoenix, Frontier canceled 3.1% of its flights. Based in Denver, Frontier's performance leaves room for improvement.
JetBlue: A Recent Departure
The third-worst-performing airline is JetBlue, which recently pulled all its flights from MSP. Known as the king of economy airlines, JetBlue canceled 2.5% of its flights, highlighting challenges even before their exit from the Twin Cities market.
How Do Major Airlines Compare?
To put these numbers into perspective, United, American, and Delta all maintained cancellation rates below 0.6%. While the lowest performers are all "low-cost" airlines, flying them can feel like rolling the dice. I guess the old saying rings true: you get what you pay for.
