Reuben Walleye Sandwich Was A Mouth-Watering Surprise At Northern Minnesota Bar
We had amazing food and some of the best service at Northern Minnesota bar and restaurant. The surprise of the night was just how good their Walleye Reuben sandwich was.
A group of us went on an ice fishing trip to Lake Of The Woods on the Minnesota / Canada border. It's been a weird winter for ice fishing, and we thought going further North would be fun. It was a blast, but it also was a little sketchy at times with not the best ice in the world.
One of the great things was that the resort we stayed at had a bar and restaurant right in the middle of the cabins you could stay in. The place is called Cyrus Resort on Lake Of The Woods. Their Facebook page calls it 'The Best kept Secret on Lake of the Woods."
We got to the resort on our first night at we decided to have dinner at the bar. We all tried something different, and we all really liked the food. Our server, Callie, was fantastic. Seriously, she was one of the best servers I've had, and it was super nice to have great customer service at a time when it's so hard to come by. I would just be finishing a drink and she would be getting me another one. We all thought she was fantastic.
Anyway, getting to the feature of the meal. My friend Brandon got the Walleye Reuben sandwich. According to the menu, it can come with walleye or corned beef, and in this case, he got it with both. He loved it so much after the first couple of bites that I realized I needed to get a picture of this before it was gone.
The sandwich was $16. Worth every penny according to Brandon. I had the parmesan boneless wings and waffle fries with seasoned sour cream. It was so good I came back the next day and ordered it again.
For a place to eat in such a remote location, they sure had an extensive menu.
You could really come back for each meal on your trip and get something different each time. We ate there twice, and then had the rest of the meals we prepared in our nice cabin. They were very modern and came with a full kitchen.
It may be called the best-kept secret, but Saturday night there wasn't a spot to sit in there. It was packed and this place was slinging out orders.
When you head out on the ice, they actually have a bar called the Angry Walleye right out on the ice. Everyone was talking about their Bloody Mary Bucket. What a great idea! The bar was a popular spot right off the ice road.
If you find yourself in the area, or if you want to plan a trip, I can tell you that the food was awesome.
