Minnesota DNR Brings Back A Challenge For Moms This May

The Minnesota fishing opener is just a couple of weeks away, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wants you to get your mom out on the water.

Every year, conflict arises from people wanting to go fishing for the opener on Mother's Day weekend. The Minnesota DNR had a great idea last year to start the Minnesota Mom's Fishing Challenge. They are bringing it back.

Moms can fish for free without a license on May 11-12. The fishing challenge was a success last year. The Minnesota DNR says at least 2400 moms participated in the virtual event.

How The Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge Works

To be eligible for the challenge you must abide by the following:

1. You must be a Minnesota mom. (no brainer, right?)
2. Post a photo of your fish on May 11-12.
3. Be safe on the water, share your fishing plan with a friend or family member.
4. No spam in the group
5. Be kind and courteous

You can join the group on their Facebook page. Post only one photo per fish that you catch to be eligible for prizes.

The DNR also shared photos of moms who had some luck last year, too.

The Minnesota DNR teams up with the Student Angler Organization and Women Anglers Of Minnesota for this event.

Minnesota DNR Also Offers 'Take A Kid Fishing Weekend' June 7-9

If you are a Minnesota resident and you are taking a child 15 or younger fishing, you don't need a license for take a kid fishing weekend. You can find more information on that also on the Minnesota DNR's website.
