Minnesota Shelter Reaching Capacity For Dogs, Homes Needed ASAP For These Adorable Pups
Every week we check in with Animal Allies to talk about a pet of the week. Surprisingly, the last few weeks it's been all about dogs. In the years we've had the shelter as a guest, normally the problem has been too many pets. The pandemic is partly to blame for the shift of having too many dogs without homes.
Normally Animal Allies does well enough with adoptions that they are actually able to intake dogs from other shelters across the country to help save their lives and find them a home. However, this spring has been challenging with the number of strays and surrendered dogs coming in. Why?
Remember in 2020 when COVID-19 hit? People were stuck at home and many decided it was time to get a dog. Now a few years later, those people are having second thoughts about pet ownership and also may be giving up on some dogs with some behavioral problems.
It's unfortunate because these dogs all deserve a home where they can be loved and part of the family. How can you say no to these faces?
This is Dale. Seriously, he's a dog named Dale! How awesome. Dale is a 4-year-old mixed breed looking for a home.
A puppy named Panda! Panda is a ten-month-old male Great Pyrenees mix. He's a gentle giant but has no idea how big he is, so he may accidentally knock over a kid.
Garma is a timid girl, but she loves treats and patient humans. She's a three-year-old Terrier / American Staffordshire Mix.
Recently new to being an indoor dog is Butterfly. She's a big dog that is now potty trained but is trying to get the hang of being an indoor dog. A big brother dog might be able to show her some polite indoor etiquette.
Suzy needs a calm home and is a little timid, but this 1 and a half-year-old mixed breed dog really comes out of her shell once she gets to know you.
Meet energetic Niko! He's a three-year-old mixed-breed dog that loves to play and loves his toys.
Astro needs to be the only dog in the house, but he's more than enough for your heart. The 3-year-old shepherd mix is a little slow to warm up, but he will be your best friend for life once you establish that bond.
Sylvia is a little bit of a nervous dog, but she loves to play, loves treats, and will warm up to a forever home. She's a four-year-old mixed-breed large dog.
Ceelo is a one-year-old dog that has his very own look. He's still a puppy and needs some work on his manners, but he's already learned how to sit! He loves meeting new people too!
Tigger is just a puppy, but she's very affectionate. She's a little timid around men at first, but she'll warm up. She is motivated by treats, so that's how you can teach her some tricks and manners.
Sweet Rex is a five-year-old German Shepherd Mix. He loves doing whatever you do and hanging around, whether it's being a couch potato or hanging out in the backyard.
Sadie is an eight-year-old Pointer mix who is young at heart. She needs to be in a home where she's the only pet. She's a good girl though and LOVES people and being outside.
Reuben is a big, goofy beefcake. He's 2 years old and loves to run and play. He's independent, loves stinky treats, and wants to be the baby of the house, so best to be the only pet. Reuben looks like a lot of fun.
These dogs are available for adoption at Animal Allies in Duluth, Minnesota. They are all spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vet-checked. Adoption fees go to help cover these costs.
