The Lake Superior Zoo is doing some good this month - but they need your help to do so and urgently.

You may have heard of or been to the SeaQuest attraction in the Rosedale Mall. That is the mall I grew up going to and have been the attraction myself.

Unfortunately, it has closed and the animals that were housed there are now at risk of being euthanized. That's where the Lake Superior Zoo comes in.

Staff at the zoo were contacted by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to help evaluate the needs of the animals that were once housed by SeaQuest and are greatly impacted by its closure.

Zoo staff are asking for help from the public so they can take in some of the animals from the attraction who will otherwise be euthanized without a place to go and be cared for. Some of the animals will be making Duluth their permanent home.

Other animals will be transferred to other accredited zoos and money raised for the animals will go towards helping cover the costs of the transfer of the animals, along with their care when they arrive.

Money raised will also go towards initial veterinary services for the animals. So far, about $300 has been raised. You can donate towards these services directly via the Lake Superior Zoo's official website.

SeaQuest officially closed in February after six years in business. According to KARE 11, the Animal Humane Society received many complaints about the business over the years, while PETA urged the business in a statement to send the animals to reputable places upon closing.

Zoo staff are traveling to SeaQuest this week to assess the situation. I am glad that the Lake Superior Zoo is getting involved because they are known for the way they treat and love their animals.

Stay tuned - the Lake Superior Zoo may be getting some cute new additions soon.
