The Lake Superior Zoo just got bigger! They announced a very cute addition to their crew on social media Wednesday (March 26th).

I can't lie - I am completely obsessed with this new addition. Say hello to Bastet, a female sand cat, who has joined the zoo from her previous home at the Kansas City Zoo.

I don't think I have ever even heard of a female sand cat but Bastet is one of the cutest creatures I have ever seen!

Take a look at her glamour shot, courtesy of the Lake Superior Zoo:

According to this post, Bastet is part of a vital conservation program that helps protect and grow the sand cat population. As of the last check, there are only about thirty-one sand cats in zoos across the country with the designation of being part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

If you want to see Bastet, because who wouldn't, you can head to the zoo as we speak. Right now, she is in quarantine alone to ensure she is healthy before she meets her fellow sand cats, Tony and Pumpkin!

Soon, she will be paired with one of her fellow sand cats. For now, you can catch her maxin' and relaxin' right across from the current sand cat enclosure. She won't have to go too far when she is out of quarantine.
