You’re Fired Because You’re Too Attractive

Who would have ever thought that a good looking female would be fired because she was too attractive. In an article posted in the New York Times, that is exactly what has been happening, and all too often. The article gives many examples of women who were great employees, but simply too attractive, which proved to be a distraction to some people.

My favorite is James Knight, a dentist in Iowa, who fired his assistant Melissa Nelson because he found her “irresistible” and a possible threat to his marriage. She took the case to court and lost if you can believe that.

I often wonder if we are working in our chosen field, or in a nunnery? Society has changed a great deal over a relatively short time span, and those who cannot or will not adapt, should not penalize others who have.
