This is good news for movie & tv buffs. With the minimal impact of Amazon, and the trouble at Netflix, this could be the move that propels YouTube to the top.

YouTube, will launch 100 original, professionally created “channels” in the coming months from “well-known personalities and content producers from the TV, film, music, news, and sports fields.” It’s expected that the new venture will result in up to 25 hours of new, original content per day.

The move to original programming represents a big step in a new direction for YouTube, which until now hadn’t been directly involved in content creation. It also happens to be an expensive, with the company having paid an estimated $100 million, sold against future ad revenue, to get the program off the ground. Content owners are also expected to receive a full 50 percent of all advertising revenue generated by the channels.
