Drivers who use Highway 23 - more commonly known as Grand Avenue - are well-aware that we are in the middle of a two year project to make improvements to the roadway.  Now the work is shifting areas and accelerating in nature for the rest of the summer.

Crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation spent all of last summer making necessary repairs to the first leg of the work zone - as it begins off of I-35 heading towards Gary-New Duluth.  Most of work last summer focused on the flood-damaged bridge and roadway directly across from the Lake Superior Zoo.  When work convened this spring, that's where workers started their task for 2016.  Now as that punch-list is being completed, the orange cones are migrating towards the longer-stretch of roadway that leads westward.

If you've driven Grand Avenue/Highway 23 in the last couple of days, you've probably noticed that the entire stretch from the Zoo to Gary is flanked with road markings and signage.
