With temperatures flirting with 50 then dropping below freezing, this spring has certainly been a weather roller coaster. In another one of the low points of the season, the Twin Ports is the target of a winter storm that is expected to bring several inches of snow this weekend.

In response to the approaching storm, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the immediate Twin Ports region and Northern Wisconsin. The advisory goes into effect at 8 pm Friday and goes through 4 pm Saturday.

What to Expect

The National Weather Service anticipates mixed precipitation as this system moves into the area Friday evening, eventually changing to primarily snow through the late night hours of Friday and into Saturday. The advised area could see between 3 and 6 inches of snow, with the potential of some locally higher amounts. Some places near Lake Superior may see up to 8 or 10 inches before the end of the weekend. The heaviest band of snow is expected to span from just west of Duluth along a line that follows Highway 2 into Northern Wisconsin. Pockets in areas like Two Harbors and along the shoreline could see heavier amounts as well.

The mixed precipitation and heavy, wet snowfall may impact travel with slippery roads becoming likely. Travel with extra care.
