We've all heard how unsafe it is to leave your pet in a hot car in the Summertime. The Winter and the cold that comes with it presents it's own challenges. Here are a few tips that will help your pet during the freezing months ahead.

Here's a quick list according to AVMA:

Check Ups-Make sure you have your pet looked at, sometimes the cold weather can make medical conditions act up like arthritis.

Know Their Limits-Maybe your pet likes to be outside, but you need to set limits so that they don't get too cold. Pets don't know how to tell you they have had enough.

Keep Them Indoors More-Some people believe that because your pet has fur or hair, they can do ok in cold weather, but it's not true. They can get hypothermia and frostbite just as fast as humans.

Check Their Paws-When you take your dog out for a walk or to play in the snow, check the paws for cracking or bleeding.

Clean Up Chemicals-Clean up antifreeze or other chemicals that are poison to animals.

Pet Proof Your Home-When outdoor pets have to stay inside more, they get in to things. Don't let them be tempted by something they shouldn't have.

Feed Well-Some pet owners believe in putting a little weight on their pets in the winter to keep them warm and then run it off in the warmer months.

Prepare Your Car-You should have something in your car for you AND your pet. Bring water in your emergency/first aid kit. Have a bowl handy for them to drink. You might need something to cover their paws if you have walk ahead of you. Put some dog food/treats in the box too, along with your emergency needs.
