The Avian Flu outbreak that is bearing down on the United States (even Minnesota) could mean a turkey-less Thanksgiving this November.

Already, more than 21 million birds have been euthanized in order to prevent the spread of the disease.  Part of the eradication process is the elimination of the flock and total disinfection before a new batch of turkeys can be brought in.  What has experts worried is the turn-around time needed for turkey poults to reach maturity. It can take more than four months for the turkeys to reach the table-ready stage.  The longer this outbreak lasts the closer we get to that November holiday.

Just last week, officials with the Minnesota State Fair announced plans to take a hard look at whether or not they'll have poultry exhibits at this years exposition.
