January 1, 2016 is the date that the City of Superior adds an additional garbage fee onto the utility bills of property owners.  This fee will be paid in addition to the dollars already allocated from the property tax fund to pay for garbage services.  The city faces a shortfall in excess of a million dollars at the municipal landfill even as the city accepts the refuse of neighboring communities like Duluth and Proctor.

To alert residents who may have not heard about the increase in fees, city workers will begin to place bright orange tags on every garbage cart starting Monday, December 7.  These tags will detail the increase in the fee and how residents can request a cart to be delivered or removed;  the new fee structure charges per garbage cart and many residents in the city have more than one dumpster.  Click here for more details on having extra dumpsters removed from your property in advance of the charges.

The new fee is effective January 1 and will be billed on the first quarter utility bill in April - along with the cities recent stormwater charges and recycling fees.
