It was on this day in 1978 that Keith Moon, drummer for the Who, died of a drug overdose.

Keith was prescribed the drug Heminevrin, which was then widely used as a drug to control and eventually curb alcoholism. (I have been told by four rock n rollers who used the drug as well, that  it was a "soft gel" that they used to get high.)

Keith attended a party hosted by Paul McCartney the night before, celebrating the release of Paul's film on Buddy Holly and seemed in good spirit. He died the next day.

Upon examination of Keith, doctors found he had ingested 32 pills into his system, and 26 were still undissolved.

His death came two weeks after the release of "Who Are You."
