Sorry but the answer to that is never. We have been told that Soccer would become America's number one sport. I have to say in my lifetime I have seen it get more popular, but I have not seen it  blow up.

When I was a kid, we didn't know about soccer. We didn't play soccer. Soccer was something on tv that we watched and other countries won the World Cup. It was tradition for the US team to get their butts kicked and then get knocked out of the first round. If they scored at all that was a big deal.

I am surprised Soccer isn't bigger, it's a cheap sport to play. What do you need. Shirt, shorts, shin guards, socks, and shoes.......done! Then you play with other kids and have a coach. Not like other sports where you have to have ice time, or court time.

I watched the USA play and at first got excited, but when I looked closer, they only won 1 game, tied 1 and lost 1. It wasn't the great showing I am reading about. We still can't beat the good teams it seems. Now, I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer, but we still haven't beaten the heavy hitters.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see the US team do well. I think they have taken a step in the right direction by hiring a heavy hitter coach, but all I heard before the World Cup is how he was taking risks and not taking the right players. If he has been to the semis before, who are we to second guess him.

Maybe we need to let the people we hire to do a job, do it. Soccer will blow up in this country when the USA wins more, when they are a power, when we are feared as much as the other heavy hitters.
