What’s New On The Iron Range? Plans For Phase II Of The Highway 169 Cross-Range Expressway To Be Detailed At A Public Meeting On April 28
Iron Range residents have reason to be happy: The plans for a two-lane expansion on Highway 169 between Bovey and Taconite are about to move forward.
Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are inviting interested parties to a public meeting on Tuesday, April 28 to detail Phase II of the Highway 169 Cross-Range Expressway project. The meeting will start at 4:30 PM at the Taconite Community Center: 28 Haynes Street in Taconite.
This meeting will include a project update, detail the environmental process, and give information about the right-of-way acquisition process.
At the heart of the project is the expansion of the highway from single lane to two-lane status for the one and a half-mile stretch between Bovey and Taconite. Once complete, drivers will be able to travel from the eastern-most communities of the Iron Range (Eveleth, Biwabik, et al) to the western community of Grand Rapids on a two-lane expressway.
