Here we are, the 39th year of the Grandma's Marathon and Garry Bjorklund half marathon with Garry returning to celebrate the 25th year of the Half Marthon that bears his name. There are always things to remember when the marathon is run, for both runners and fans.

Things to remember when you are a fan.

You don't have to be at the end to enjoy the end of the race. The race is broadcast on ESPN Radio 560 WEBC, and streamed at webc560.com. So you can watch from any point. Everyone has their favorite part to watch from. Some enjoy Lemon Drop Hill, some like Downtown Duluth with all the backdrop of the buildings, and if it's sunny the area provides some shade. It is exciting to be at the finish line, but you can be anywhere and not have to fight the traffic.

Speaking of traffic, there is plenty of it. It is best to park somewhere close and walk to where you want to be. It also makes it easier to leave the area if you want to enjoy lunch or explore another part lf the city. There area is also blocked off, so you really can't explore in the race area anyway.

The runners are so tired, don't  dart out in front of them, sometimes they are just concentrating on getting to the finish line and don't have the strength to stop.

Things To Remember If You Are Running The Races

These are people's yards and homes along the course, please discard your garbage at a help station, water station, or recepticle along the course.

Same goes for if you have to the bathroom along the way. These are residential areas and there are places to go along the course, so your cooperation is needed so that people don't wake up or come out to a surprise on their lawn.

Hydrate yourself. Most people when they run the course don't think to drink some small cups of water. You don't have to drink liters of it, just enough so you don't hurt your body.

All the people helping you are volunteers, please treat them respect.
