Halloween once started to as a Celtic holiday and a way to celebrate All Hallow's Eve. It became part of the Celtic celebration to give out candy, they would also dress up in costumes to confuse the dead. They believed that Oct 31 and Nov. 1 was an overlap in time that the dead to could visit earth.

Americans will spend millions of dollars on Halloween Candy and Costumes this year, My buddy Ed, has particular tastes in candy. I know one of them, he always takes them from my kids, because they won't eat them. Here's Ed's list of favs for Halloween Candy.
