The roots of this song can be traced back to a gospel track recorded by the Staple Singers back in 1955. The song  starts with a guitar riff which although new to the Stones, would be come a staple in many of their future songs.

Catchy guitar riffs were started by the likes of Chuck Berry for example. The Beatles also  started a few of their songs with guitar riff intro's. The Stones Satisfaction may well have been justified by the success of their prior hit.

The song I'm talking about is The Last Time, released 50 years ago this month, in March of 1965. The Stones use of guitar riffs is well known, and heard in many of their songs, but it started with The Last Time.
