BB King passed away last night. To me he was one of the original guitarists. By that, I mean that he was old school, he didn't have someone ahead of him to do what he did, he didn't really have mentor, yet he was a mentor to many.

Eric Clapton was one of those men that BB King helped and inspired. Clapton made a blues record, because that's where his heart is, and he later said in public he only made that record to play with BB King. BB King was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the third best guitarist of all time. In the U2 movie Rattle and Hum, King admits he doesn't play chords well, just solo, and he needed to feel the song.
