I knew this day was coming, I had heard rumor of it, but as of this week, the rumors have become truth.  Dan Russell, the Executive Director of the DECC will be retiring from a position he has held for 27 years.  During the excitement of the DECC celebrating it's 50th anniversary I was lucky to spend some time with Dan and to talk about his memories of concerts, events and share other behind the scenes secrets.

While I'm sure he's looking forward to this new chapter in his life, I'm sad to see him go.  His successor will have big shoes to fill!

I met Dan 21 years ago when I started in the broadcast industry and we had a professional relationship.  Then, years later our friendship deepened after he married one of my very good friends.  I'm excited for their family to be able to share more time together.

As I mentioned earlier, Dan and I created a video series before the DECC's 50th anniversary that brings us back to the days the DECC was called the Duluth Arena, before the Harbor Side room, the Symphony Hall Auditorium and the Amsoil.  In the series we morph from days gone by to the present.  Dan doesn't hold back and shares some secrets of concerts, artists and interesting facts about the Amsoil, catering and more.  I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I did shooting them with Dan.  That day just might be MY favorite memory of the DECC!

Best wishes in your new endeavors Dan and thank you for your years of service and dedication to bringing the best of the best entertainment for Northlanders to enjoy!
