Victim And Suspect Identified In Fatal Hit And Run In Superior

At 9:30 p.m., on Friday, August 17th, the Superior Police Department responded to a hit and run accident resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The victim has been identified as Eugene David Renko, 61, of Superior.

A vehicle left the scene but was located in St. Louis County on Sunday August 19th, in the early morning hours. Investigation led to identification of the driver as being Jeffrey Swagger, 47, (pictured)

Detectives from the Superior Police Department contacted Swagger on Sunday afternoon, and he was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on a charge of hit and run-involving a death which can carry a fine of $100,000 or imprisonment not to exceed 25 years, or both.

The incident remains under investigation.
