Luck was not on their side as they lost to Salisbury of Maryland 34 to 17, but what a season. One of their players got to represent the USA in rugby, and support is up.

One thing they need is funding for next year, if you want to support the team get in touch with them by calling UMD, or connect on facebook here

According to the Duluth News Tribune, UMD coach Jeramy Katchuba, 40, the squad’s coach since 1999, says  “We’re still really young, but we have guys who have been playing together for quite some time now. This year we’ve got more players consistently coming out to practice than we’ve ever had since I’ve been here. That helps a lot.”

The Fighting Penguins tallied a great record in their division and hope next year is better.  “I think we realized we had a lot of talent that we didn’t capitalize on last year,” said Lars Anderson, 19, a sophomore and Duluth East graduate. “We also have an increase of players that played in high school. That’s a huge help, having players coming in that already know what to do. We have a solid base of experienced players.”
