1942 – Anne Frank receives a diary for her thirteenth birthday (More info)

1963 – Civil rights leader Medgar Evers is murdered in Jackson, Mississippi by Ku Klux Klan member Byron De La Beckwith (More info)

1967 – In Loving v. Virginia, the US Supreme Court declares all state laws prohibiting interracial marriage are unconstitutional (More info)

1987 – During a speech at the Brandenburg Gate near the Berlin Wall, US President Ronald Reagan famously delivers the line, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” (More info)

1994 – Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman are killed outside her California home. Her ex-husband, O.J. Simpson, is later tried for the murders but acquitted. (More info)

2009 – A disputed presidential election in Iran leads to wide ranging protests in Iran and around the world. The events have been dubbed the “Twitter Revolution” because of the protesters’ reliance on Twitter and other social-networking sites to communicate with one other. (More info)
