The Beatles’ ‘Revolution’ to be covered by Flaming Lips as Tribute to Steve Jobs

Apple Inc. and the Beatles have been intertwined since the computer giant’s earliest days, so it’s only fitting that the band’s music should be used to pay tribute to recently deceased company founder Steve Jobs.

The Flaming Lips have announced plans to debut their cover of the classic Beatles track ‘Revolution’ at the O Music Awards 2 on Oct. 31 — and record their performance on an iPad.

The awards show, which will be broadcast on OMusicAwards.com, continues O Music’s efforts to honor “the artists, innovators and fans impacting digital music culture.” This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Robyn and feature appearances from Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Travie McCoy and Tyler, the Creator.

For the Flaming Lips, recording a live cover of ‘Revolution’ on an iPad is just the latest step in a year filled with surprising and/or offbeat projects, including a single released as a dozen YouTube clips, an EP buried in a seven-pound edible gummy skull, and a recording of a six-hour song.

Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne once again recently showed his excellent taste in classic rock by running down a list of his 10 favorite Pink Floyd songs.
