Summer is the construction season so it's no doubt that you've encountered some orange cones and signs already this time of year.  Along with lane closures, some projects require temporary shutdowns of roadways - requiring a flagger to direct vehicles through.  Now - a new requirement from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will add temporary rumble strip overlays to those projects that mandate a flagger.

The move stems as part of a systematic approach to safety.  The rumble strips offer an audio (the sound) and physical (the light shaking sensation) warning to approaching drivers that there is a lane closure and a flagger is installed to direct traffic.
