The Twin Ports is the regional nickname for the bordering port cities of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin. Other cities considered part of the extended Twin Ports Area include towns like Proctor and Hermantown.

The Twin Ports is the westernmost shipping hub on Lake Superior, part of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The ports area is 2,342 miles away from the Atlantic Ocean, which is where some of the shipping traffic comes from or heads to each year. These ships are often referred to as ‘salties’.

The Twin Ports area’s earliest commerce was based around the fur trade, before transitioning to a vast number of other goods that include grain, taconite, and a number of other items.
