In an effort to spotlight the difference that tax credits bring to low to moderate-income families, the Head of the Lakes United Way is bringing together community leaders for an Awareness Day assembly on Friday, January 27.  The event will take place at 11:00 AM in Conference Room A at the Ordean Building, 424 West Superior Street.

It was pretty good day for the buyers, tax payers, and St. Louis County on June 10!  That was the date of a public land sale that offered tax forfeited properties back to the general public.  Over the course of the day 16 properties were sold to eager buyers, raising $386,500 in funds and returning them to the tax roll for future revenue for the county.

A friend of mine was stressing because they weren't done with their taxes and took the day off to finish them. They didn't want to miss the April 15th deadline. So I went online to see what happens and how much trouble you could get in.

Following news that the State of Minnesota is expected to see a $1.9 billion surplus at the end of the year, critics are urging lawmakers to return the money to taxpayers.

Saint Louis County officials are warning property owners to mail their upcoming tax payments early and to check the pick-up times at the box they drop their envelope into to make sure that they get postmarked on time.  Property tax payments for the second half of the year are due on Thursday, October 15.

Officials with Saint Louis County returned seven properties to the property tax rolls following a land auction that was held June 11 at the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center (The Depot).  The sale was the largest county land sale ever in the history of the county.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue has received reports of at least one individual posing as an agent of the Department of Revenue, attempting to collect money fraudulently.

April 15 is tax day (unless of course it falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or a federal holiday).  Miss the deadline and you'll be hit with a penalty, right?  Not always.

Once upon a day, the IRS mailed you the necessary forms and instructions book you needed to complete your income taxes.  Those days - unfortunately - are over.  Now, you're left to source them out yourself.

On these cold days on the weekends when you don't want to go outside, why not get a jump start on your spring cleaning and make a little cash too.

Once upon a time Superior residents didn't pay for stormwater or recycling.  Now - in lieu of increased property taxes - they do, along with their sewer usage.  Residents who received their 4th quarter bill a few days ago and noticed that they were due rather quickly will get an extra ten days to pay.

Now that we are in the month of April, tax deadline is just a couple of weeks away, have you finished your taxes? If you still do them long hand, you can no longer get tax forms at libraries. Minnesota Tax forms are pretty much obolete, people can print them from websites and tax programs.
